Dear all
I thought that many list members would be saddened to here of the passing of Sir Owen , this morning. Sir Owen was, of course, best know for his report "Compensation for Personal injury in New Zealand" that lead to the abolition of the tort system in New Zealand. He was, also for us here, one of the most prominent remaining representatives of a group of New Zealand lawyers who returned from the War convinced that the purpose of the law was to create a just society for those who had fought so hard for one.
His Report is still as fresh as the day he wrote it, and well worth the read, even if you might disagree with its description of the problem, or its prescription for change.
